Start With the Trip. Not the Credit Card.
By Moawia Abdelkarim, founder (@worldtravelwithmiles)
What if we’ve been approaching travel rewards backward all along?
Every day, I see people asking the same questions.
What’s the best travel credit card? Which card has the biggest welcome bonus? Should I earn Amex, Chase, Citi, or Capital One points?
Reasonable questions. But I believe we’re asking them in the wrong order.
The first question should be simpler.
Where do you want to go?
I’ve spent years earning and redeeming millions of points and miles. One lesson stands out: accumulating points without a purpose can leave you with an impressive balance and surprisingly few useful options.
That’s the philosophy behind Bonus Bound.
Start with the trip in mind. Earn with purpose.
The Problem With Chasing Points
Imagine spending two years accumulating 200,000 points, only to discover that your bank doesn’t partner with the airline offering the award seats you need for Japan.
Or accumulating hundreds of thousands of hotel points, then discovering your dream property requires twice what you expected.
These are illustrative examples, but the problem is real.
You earned the points. Just not the right currency for your goal.
Transfer partners matter. Award availability matters. And traveling solo versus taking a family of five changes everything.
The value of points isn’t how many you accumulate. It’s what they allow you to experience.
What If We Reversed the Process?
Instead of choosing a credit card and figuring out where its points might take you, why not start with the destination and work backward?
That’s what we’re building with Bonus Bound.
How Bonus Bound Works
1. Create your profile.
Answer a few simple questions about yourself and your travel preferences.
2. Add your existing cards.
Show us what’s already in your wallet. You might already have everything you need.
3. Define your goal.
Where do you want to go? How many people are traveling? Economy or business class? What experience are you hoping for?
4. Explore your options.
Bonus Bound will present personalized roadmaps showing different ways to reach your goal.
Maybe your existing cards are enough. Perhaps adding another card could shorten the journey. Or combining different currencies might make more sense.
5. Choose your own journey.
You decide which path works for you, based on your points needs, spending habits, and timeline.
No one-size-fits-all recommendations.
Guidance Along the Way
Travel rewards can get complicated. You shouldn’t need to become an expert to make them work.
Bound, an AI-powered assistant, will help answer questions throughout your journey.
Prefer human guidance? You’ll also be able to connect with a live advisor and schedule a consultation.
A Different Philosophy
I don’t believe in collecting credit cards unnecessarily, paying annual fees without justification, or chasing points simply because they’re available.
And I don’t believe affiliate commissions should determine which cards someone gets recommended.
Bonus Bound is being built without affiliate links influencing recommendations.
We’re still building and refining the experience. But the philosophy is already clear.
Stop asking which card you should get first.
Start asking where you want to go.
The trip is the goal. The cards are the tools.
That’s Bonus Bound.
